As of 2006, Oregon Coastal Flowers has expanded its large white calla lily production to South America. We have built up such a good market for our quality white calla lilies (Zantedeshica aethiopica) that supply was our limiting factor. Because of our seasonal production, we were only able to produce colored calla lilies from February through June. By working with a few select growers in Colombia, we can now offer premium large white calla lilies year round. High in the Andean mountains near the equator, a unique growing environment exists where calla lilies can be grown year round. We have partnered with key growers in Colombia, training them with our strict calla lily quality control guidelines. With regular visits and daily communication, we have been able to replicate our calla lily production hear in Oregon on our off-season. Privately labeled as Oregon Coastal Flowers, flowers from these select farms can now be delivered to you from July through January. Calla lilies shipped farm direct and held to the same quality standards as those calla lilies produced in Oregon. The large white calla lilies supplied by our South American growers average 36” tall. We sell them in two different stages of harvest. The first stage is called regular cut. These regular cut calla lilies are shipped approximately 1/3 open to prevent bruising during transit. They will open up a little more, however, not signficantly. Most people prefer this stage of harvest, however, if you desire the “fully open” effect, then you need to order the “Open Cut—Ready to Use” harvest stage. Open cut calla lilies are shipped 2/3 open and will open nearly all the way within 2-3 days. They are more expensive because there are less flowers in the box and they require more care in handling. There can also be more bruising during shipment in this stage. This “Open Cut” stage is becoming more and more popular all the time. We suggest Thursday delivery both stages of harvest for a weekend event to allow enough time for these calla lilies to open up. We ship these large white calla lilies directly from our farm in South America using fedex. Upon arrival, simply unpack from the box, recut the stems, and allow them time to open. Be prepared with large buckets to hydrate these flowers into. Read our large white calla lily flower care section for more information on caring for these calla lilies. Large white calla lilies generally arrive with a slight bend. There are two ways to minimize this. Firstly, open the box and check the quality of the flowers without loosening the packaging material. If everything looks okay, shut the box again and turn the box upside down for 6-12 hours. The flowers will straighten slighting. Secondly, when putting them in buckets. Leave the curve to the outside of the bucket. Since it is normal for the calla lilies to reach for the light, they will straighten up against the curve. Be careful, though, as if placed in the bucket incorrectly, the curve can become even more pronounced.
