Hydrangea Grading StandardsBloom Size: Here on the Oregon Coast we are quite famous for our jumbo sized hydrangea blooms. The average bloom size varies tremendously by variety and plant, however. The overall average diameter of our blooms are 6" to 8". The blue hydrangeas tend to have the smallest blooms while the antique hydrangeas are the largest. Don't be surprised to have over 12" flowers in your box. If they are too big, then it is possible to cut off side branches of the individual flowers to make them smaller. Generally if the flowers are on the small side (around 4" in diameter), we put extra flowers in the box to make up for it. Stem Length: Stem length is also highly dependent upon individual varieties and plants. The average stem length is between 16" to 18". We always cut them as long as possible up to about 24" long. Of course, for whatever use you have, you can always cut them as short as you need them for your respective event. | |
